We’ve all heard it before….be careful what you put on social media, once it is on the internet it is there forever. The warnings are there for social media as well as the do’s and don’ts. With numerous warnings and a detailed set of rules to follow, social media can either make or break you. However, what if businesses stepped back and looked at social media in a new light. Social media is the perfect way to show off company culture in order to draw people in. Businesses are turning social media into a positive new light as a way to reflect company culture.

Show Off Your Employees

Social media provides an easy way to let the world know what type of employees you hire. Small personal details are great along with highlighting that certain employee’s achievements and successes. Taking the time to recognize your employees publicly not only attracts other people to the company, but boosts employee morale as well. Who doesn’t want a little bit of recognition for their accomplishments? It is nice to get a small pat on the back sometimes even if it is through social media. Also, highlighting employees through social media shows consumers that you truly care and are interested about your employees enough to do a little excerpt on them.

Sell the Culture

Through social media, people on the outside should be able to tell exactly what the company is about. If you do community service, broadcast it for all to see. Put forth your best face, but make sure to stay true to your original brand. Give little snippets of behind the scenes action to keep people on their toes about what else the company is up to. No matter what, everything that gets put on social media should be a direct correlation of the company culture. After all, a picture says a thousand words, so make that next Instagram post count.

Consumer Engagement

Social media is rapidly changing the workforce. Engaging posts, such as Twitter polls, are a great way to figure out what consumers are thinking, and it allows them to feel like they are part of the team. As followers learn more about your company culture, missions, and values, a loyal community will begin to form. Post shares, likes, comments, and retweets act as a form of digital word-of-mouth advertising, which helps the community grow. The beauty of social media is that these digital brand ambassadors can help get the word out about your company throughout channels you may not have previously considered.

Pick the Right Platform

Ultimately, each and every company culture is very different from one another. With so many types of social media out there, the question often pops up of what platform to use. This all depends on company culture, so be sure to choose wisely.  Each different type of social media has its own benefits, so you have to do some research to pick out the company’s go to social media platform. Linkedin is very good for the professional business setting while Facebook is good for short videos that get points across through visuals. Instagram is almost completely a visual platform, and Twitter is used for short memos, videos, and polls. A combination of platforms works well, just be careful not to be too repetitive. Whatever one the company chooses, make sure that it correlates well to the company’s culture. Most likely an extremely formal company wouldn’t be posting funny short clips on Facebook, they would most likely be sharing articles on Linkedin.

There are so many ways to make company culture shine through the use of social media. Since social media platforms are very easily accessible, companies are able to quickly get the word out about their company.
